Snøhetta and Litosfere at Castelvecchio

SNØHETTA AND LITHOSPHERE IN CASTELVECCHIO

Pibamarmi company has for long time been promoting experimental design that is aimed to innovate stone materials, thanks to prestigious collaboration with internationally recognized designers. Within this research domain Lithosphere installation was conceived in 2011 by Norwegian studio Snøhetta in order to explore sensorial qualities of stone, and it is now showing in a partial adaptation at Cortile di Castelvecchio in Verona. The work presents vertical textures made of stone cylinders, sometimes hard and full, some others light and pierced. In an intriguing game of contrasts, the composition of these elements stimulates in the users different reactions, making them think about  the natural properties of stone materials and about the potentialities of industrial manifacturing processes.
